The rules for keeping a bone marrow donor register have been approved by the Russian Government. The relevant decree was signed by Russia’s Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
“A federal bone marrow donor registry will appear in Russia. Thanks to it, doctors will be able to quickly find volunteers who are ready to save the lives of people with serious diseases, the government website said in a statement published on Thursday.
The register will be a detailed, constantly updated database. She will collect information about every donor and every patient in need of a transplant. Using such a database, specialists will be able to find a suitable donor not only in their region, but throughout the country. As explained by the government, the FMBA will be responsible for establishing, maintaining and developing the registry.
«This is the first step in creating a unified state system for the donation of bone marrow and hematopoietic stem cells, which is essential in the treatment of patients with oncohaematological diseases,» the report reads.
Earlier, the government submitted a bill to the State Duma, which provides for the improvement of this work as a whole. In particular, it is proposed to grant donors the right to material assistance, medical examination, treatment and rehabilitation. The draft has already passed its first reading. Earlier, speaking to a government report in the State Duma, Mishustin asked MPs to speed up the consideration of this bill.
— It is a matter of saving hundreds of human lives — stressed the prime minister.
The signed resolution will allow for the continuation of work on the creation of the register even before the adoption of the act, according to the government website, Interfax informs.
