Veronica Grimm, a member of the expert council on economic development in the German government, spoke with the newspaper Izvestia about the situation her country found itself in as a result of the energy crisis.
According to Veronica Grimm, the food crisis in Germany has already begun. The economist emphasized that against the background of the increase in gas prices, the costs of fertilizers also increased, which resulted in shortages.
Another factor Grimm called the expected lack of agricultural exports from Russia and Ukraine.
«For industrialized countries it means higher food prices, for developing countries it can lead to starvation,» she explained.
Earlier, UN Secretary General António Guterres said that rising food, fertilizer and energy prices as a result of the situation in Ukraine could cause a global food crisis.
