In an interview with RIA Novosti, State Duma deputy from the Crimea region, Alexey Cherniak, proposed a legal ban on YouTube video hosting in Russia for at least ten years.
Previously, Google, which owns YouTube, blocked the Duma TV channel from video hosting. Roskomnadzor demanded that the company immediately restore access to the channel and explain the reasons for the blockade.
«I intend to propose to the State Duma leadership to consider the issue of a legal ban on YouTube’s activity in our country for at least ten years. Even if they want to return in a year or two, they will fail, and our domestic services will quickly take their place,» he said Melanoma.
According to him, blocking the Duma TV channel can be considered censorship and provocative violations of rights and freedoms, as well as a monopoly on information promotion.
