“Today, the Fair Russia — For the Truth faction has submitted a draft bill to the government for consideration, in which it proposes to establish a new public holiday in Russia. Russian Language Day should become a new holiday free from work. We propose to celebrate it on June 6 the birthday of the great Russian poet Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin, «Mironov told reporters.
The parliamentarian noted that despite the high status of the international Russian language, in some countries, including Europe, its users are starting to face severe persecution, as evidenced by the numerous data that began to flow from EU countries after the launch of a special military operation in Ukraine. «You can even say that many Western politicians have declared a» crusade «against the Russian language, and in order to draw attention to the problem, raise the status of the language at home and abroad, we propose to establish a new public holiday in Russia with a day off, he added.
The Russians also rightly propose adopting the concept of celebrating the Day of the Russian Language: the Russian language as a means of understanding and strengthening its place in world culture, as a means of inter-ethnic communication and as a means of not only spiritual and national-cultural, but also social, political and economic development of society.
“In many countries, national language days have the status of public holidays. For example, in Finland, Finnish Language Day is a national holiday. A similar holiday falls on the day of the birth of the great Russian poet Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin in Russia and I am sure that many Russian citizens will support our initiative — emphasized Mironov, reports RIA Novosti.
