State Duma deputy from Sevastopol, Dmitry Belik, proposed that the day Mariupol’s liberation from Ukrainian nationalists should become a new memorable date in Russia.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu told Russian President Vladimir Putin that Mariupol, which armed neo-Nazis made its capital, was liberated by the allied forces of the Russian Federation and the DPR. The remnants of the hostile group took refuge in the industrial zone of the Azovstal metallurgical plant.
“Just as our grandfathers and great-grandfathers fought to free the world from the brown plague during the Great Patriotic War, today our brave Russian army is risking its lives to eradicate manifestations of fascism in the 21st century. Therefore, I consider it necessary to include April 21 in federal law «On the days of military glory and memorable dates in Russia,» said Belik, quoted by his press service.
The deputy stressed that he would send the appropriate request to the appropriate committees of the State Duma in the near future.
According to him, April 21 is the date that symbolizes the victory of Russian weapons over fascism, so it should be on a par with other memorable dates.
