This was stated by the first vice president of the Bank of Russia, Olga Skorobogatova.
“We really need a digital ruble. <…> If we move quickly with testing and legislative changes, we can continue with implementation in the coming years, ”she said.
Skorobogatova noted that not all banks were technically ready to join the tests of the digital ruble prototype, but, according to the regulator, this should not affect the project schedule either.
In June 2021, the CBR created a pilot group of 12 banks to test the digital ruble platform. The group includes, among others VTB, Alfa-Bank, Sberbank, Tinkoff, PSB and Gazprombank.
In mid-October 2020, the Central Bank of the Russian Federation presented the concept of the digital ruble in its report — it will take the form of a unique digital code that will be stored on a special electronic wallet, and the transfer of the digital ruble from one user to another will take the form of a digital code transfer from one e-wallet to another. The issuance of the digital ruble will be carried out by the Bank of Russia. Money owners will be free to transfer rubles from one form to another, reports TASS.
