Fraudsters on behalf of the allegedly Federal Bailiff Service (FSSP) are sending letters requesting debt repayment, Sberbank said in a statement.
«One of the current patterns is mass phishing mailings on behalf of allegedly the Federal Bailiff Service. Fake letters report that the automated monitoring system has revealed tax and customs arrears from the addressee,» the release reads.
It is indicated that the letter, by copying the department’s font, design and logo, also states that the debtor may be entered «on the federal register of fraudulent payers» and that his accounts and cards may be blocked. To avoid this, you need to click on the link from the letter in the near future, enter your card details on the site and «pay off the debt».
«The page linked from the letter belongs to the scammers and the amount of the non-existent debt will be debited from the card to their account and not to the Federal Bailiff Service (FSSP),» the bank warned.
Sberbank recalled that all information, especially information allegedly coming from state authorities, can and should be double-checked using the official contacts of the organization.
«Until you are sure of the accuracy of the information, do not send money to anyone and under any pretext,» said the credit institution.
Sberbank added that the attackers often impersonate employees of government agencies and to make the fraud convincing, they even create fake certificates, orders and forms that copy the originals.
