New measures regarding the hosting of YouTube videos will not be taken if they comply with the requirements of Russian law. This was reported on Saturday in the press service of Roskomnadzor (RKN).
“The application of the new measures is directly dependent on the administration of the video hosting. If YouTube meets the requirements of the legislation of the Russian Federation (it starts removing illegal content and moderates extremist and anti-Russian appeals, removes restrictions from Russian channels), then there will be no grounds to apply additional measures to the resource, ”the release said.
They added that video hosting does not combat the dissemination of extremist information with calls for illegal actions against citizens and military personnel of the armed forces of the Russian Federation, nor does it limit the material of extremist organizations such as the Right Sector (banned in the Russian Federation) and the nationalist regiment «Azov».
In total, at the moment, ignoring the requirements of Roskomnadzor, video hosting has not removed more than 10,000 such prohibited materials.
To date, Roskomnadzor has drawn up and submitted to the court 22 protocols on the non-removal of information prohibited under Art. 13.41 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation in relation to Google LLC, which is the owner of YouTube. The court found the American company guilty and imposed fines totaling more than 50 million rubles, the department added.
