This is recorded in the list of government instructions after Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin’s speech.
Commenting on the topic during a State Duma report, Mishustin said that foreign platforms — the App Store and Google Play — may restrict Russian users from downloading applications. He appealed to Russian developers with a call to create a native ecosystem.
Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Maksut Shadayev, announced that a marketplace with domestic applications will be created on the Android platform due to its greater openness, flexibility and so on.
Sber, Yandex and VK say they are creating a Russian app store as a replacement for the App Store and Google Play, the Kommersant newspaper wrote, citing sources. According to publication sources, Sber is developing based on the corporate application store for SberStore specialists.
The second option may be the Yandex.Store app store, which closed in 2020. According to newspaper sources, Yandex is considering restarting it. VK could also be involved in the development of the domestic app store, sources from Kommersant believe. VK itself has confirmed to the newspaper that it is creating an app store for developers and is planning to launch it in May.
In March, the development of an application store called NashStore was announced by ANO Digital Platforms (founded in 2014 by Arseniy Shcheltsin, former director of design activities at the Internet Development Institute).
In addition, the Ministry of Digitization is also considering the possibility of launching a mobile application store based on the platform for open source software (Open Source), reports Interfax.
