The leadership of the Chechen Republic, together with the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia, is developing a project for breeding Eizenam trout, which is listed in the Red Book, in the high-mountain lake Kezenoy-Am. This was reported by Irina Makanova, director of the department of state policy and regulation for the development of protected areas of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation.
“The next project is the Eizenam trout farm, which has been developed for a long time by the Ministry of Natural Resources together with the Chechen Republic and the Russian Academy of Sciences. Lake Kezenoy-Am is an excellent place for breeding this trout, and then natural tourism development occurs around this facility. We even worked out the issue of rearing fry at the fisheries of the Republic of Dagestan for further release into the relevant bodies of water, ”said during a meeting outside the premises of the plant, chaired by First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Andrey Yatskin in the Chechen Republic.
In addition, according to her, the region could participate in the presidential program «Restitution of the Persian leopard in the Caucasus» for a long time.
«Long ago, the Russian Academy of Sciences, together with the scientists of our reserve system, concluded that the Chechen Republic is one of the most attractive places for the release of the Persian leopard,» Makanova added.
It should be noted that Kezenoy-Am is the largest alpine lake in the North Caucasus, located on the border of Chechnya and Dagestan at an altitude of 1869 m above sea level. The basin of the lake has steep slopes and a flat bottom. The depth of the lake reaches at least 74 m, but there are depressions whose exact depth has not yet been recorded. The length of the lake from north to south is 2 km, and from west to east — 2.7 km.
