More than 1,900 Ukrainian nationalists blocked at the Azovstal plant in Mariupol have already surrendered, Defense Minister General Sergei Shoigu said at a meeting of the Russian Defense Ministry on Friday.
“The nationalists stuck in the factory began to surrender. At the moment, 1,908 people have laid down their arms, ”he said.
The military also managed to withdraw 177 civilians, including 85 women and 47 children, the minister said. They received the necessary medical and psychological help.
Shoigu also recalled that 1,387 Ukrainian marines had laid down their weapons earlier.
