“There are no cases of cholera in Russia so far. Previously, epidemic manifestations of cholera in the Russian Federation were characterized by a single introduction of infection by Russian citizens who returned from India to Bashkiria and Moscow, without the infectious agent spreading later.
In the European region, including countries bordering Russia, there are imported cases of the disease, the ministry said. In the last 10 years, there have been cases of importing a dangerous infectious disease into the territory of Great Britain, France, Finland, Spain, Denmark, the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Ukraine, Italy, Norway, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Kazakhstan have been reported, the press service noted.
Cholera continues to be one of the most urgent and dangerous infectious diseases of international importance, with isolated cases and outbreaks considered a state of emergency. Over the last 10 years, more than 4.5 million cholera patients have been registered in the world in 97 countries, the press service said.
To reduce the risk of cholera, Rospotrebnadzor conducts regular monitoring activities, including, but not limited to, testing water samples from open reservoirs, as well as testing biomaterials from patients with symptoms of acute intestinal infections.
Earlier, the Chief State Sanitary Doctor of the Russian Federation, Anna Popova, signed a resolution to strengthen the set of measures aimed at limiting the possibility of bringing cholera to Russia, as well as preventing possible epidemics, RIA Novosti reports.
