The current president of South Ossetia, Anatoly Bibilov, has scheduled a referendum on the republic’s accession to Russia on 17 July. About it reports RIA Novosti.
It should be noted that this decision was made by the head of state guided by the historic desire of the people of South Ossetia to unite with Russia and in accordance with Art. 50 sec. 16 of the South Ossetian Constitution.
«Establish a South Ossetian referendum on» Do you support the reunification of South Ossetia and Russia? » Set the date of the referendum to July 17, 2022. » — we read in the decree.
Bibilov himself called this step fatal.
«We’re going home, we’re going to Russia,» he wrote on the Telegram channel.
Bibilov also recalled that Russia and South Ossetia are linked by a common history.
“It’s not just a partnership or friendship. Rather, it is a relationship of trust between two brothers in which the older brother will always understand and support in word and deed, and the younger one respects and helps the elder. At the same time, fully aware of the self-sufficiency and equal rights of all. It’s time to unite once and for all. Become stronger in this now official alliance, ”he said.
President Alan Gagloev, who won the May elections, will be inaugurated after May 21.
