Fraudsters have started using new schemes to steal Apple ID money and data on the pretext of paying and using Apple Store, Apple Pay and iTunes services, reports Group-IB, a cybersecurity company.
Earlier, Apple turned off the ability to pay in its Apple Store and iTunes services using Russian Visa and MasterCard. Also, for residents of Russia, the possibility of using the Apple Pay payment service has been disabled.
«Group-IB warns against new fraudulent schemes to steal money, bank card details and Apple accounts under the pretext of payment and use of Apple Store, Apple Pay and iTunes services,» the company said in a statement.
«For example, now scammers (scammers — ed.) Are actively offering users to top up their Apple Store and iTunes accounts using special virtual cards for the amount of 1,000. rubles, 2.5 thousand. rubles, 5 thousand. rubles, 5.5 thousand. rubles and 6 thousand rubles, experts warn.
Fraudsters claim that App Store and iTunes gift cards allow you to top up your account and buy supposedly «any virtual content in absolutely all digital Apple stores in Russia»: apps and games in the App Store, music and movies in the iTunes Store, books in the iBooks store.
“To purchase a code, all you need to do is enter your e-mail address, and when paying — your bank card details. However, since the payment method is phishing, all data and money will fall into the pockets of the attackers, ”IB warns.
The company found the attackers are also offering iPhone owners a refund of the ability to pay for goods and services using Apple Pay. For this, the victim receives a phishing link to the «iCloud service» and if the user enters their Apple ID details on the fake resource, the fraudsters can access iCloud, App Store, Apple Music, iMessage, FaceTime, RIA Novosti reports.
