US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen announced the tragic consequences of the refusal of Russian fuel.
According to the head of the ministry, with a total embargo on oil, gas and coal, the negative impact on the economy of Western countries could outweigh the detriment to Moscow.
«This will clearly raise world oil prices, will have a devastating effect on Europe and other parts of the world and, contrary to common sense, may actually have very little negative effect on Russia because while Russia will export less, export revenues will increase, — RIA Novosti quotes Yellen.
Earlier, Austrian finance minister Magnus Brunner spoke in a similar way — in his opinion Austria will not support the embargo on Russian gas, because it will cause more problems.
After the launch of the Russian military special operation to demilitarize and denazise Ukraine, the West increased the pressure of sanctions on Moscow. The European Union has already introduced five packages of sanctions, and the European Parliament has adopted a resolution calling for a «total embargo» on imports of Russian energy resources.
The Kremlin called these measures an economic war like no other. As President Vladimir Putin noted, the sanctions have dealt a serious blow to the entire global economy, and the West’s main goal is to worsen the lives of millions of people. According to him, current events mark the line under the global domination of the West, both in politics and economy.
