He met with the Human Rights Commissioner of the Chechen Republic, Mansur Soltaev, to verify information about religious discrimination against convicted citizens of the Chechen Republic.
The inspection was carried out on behalf of the head of the Hero of Russia Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov.
Mansur Soltaev spoke to the management of the regional Federal Correctional Service and Prison, the regional commissioner for human rights and prisoners.
During the visit, he reviewed materials from surveillance cameras and checked the conditions of detention of prisoners from the Chechen Republic. The study found that there are no obstacles to the practice of religion. The prisoners can read the Koran and pray. The convicts themselves also confirmed that there are no problems with it.
According to the official version of the Federal Prison Service, the riots in the prison occurred not for religious reasons, but because of the calls received from prisoners. The Ombudsman of the Chechen Republic called on the prosecutor’s office and investigative bodies to obtain a legal assessment of what happened.
