The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that 80 cases of monkey pox have been confirmed in 11 countries where the disease is not considered endemic.
“About 80 cases have now been confirmed and 50 are under investigation. As surveillance grows, more cases are likely to be reported, ”the statement reads.
The organization noted that the disease is endemic to certain animal populations in certain countries, leading to periodic epidemics among local people and travelers. At the same time, the recent outbreaks recorded in 11 states are atypical as they occur in non-endemic countries.
WHO, together with affected conditions and relevant organizations, is expanding disease surveillance, including providing treatment recommendations.
