В России создадут беспилотные снегоуборочные машины

Russian engineers, together with specialists from Concordia, are developing the country’s first unmanned vehicle for clearing snow from streets and squares.

The machine will be controlled by artificial intelligence. The AI will analyze data from video cameras and other sensors installed on the hardware. Experts believe that the creation of such equipment will make street cleaning better and cheaper. The creators plan to present the prototype in 2024, and start mass production by 2025.

“We have been developing unmanned systems for a long time. This is not our first experience, it is based on previous achievements. Our partner is the developer of an electric-powered transport platform, and we are creating an automatic control module that performs the function of unmanned motion, ”explained Nikolai Panokin, head of the Center for Advanced Development of Autonomous Systems at the Moscow State University of Technology.

The snow thrower must work in an environment of many obstacles. Depending on their nature, the robot decides: make a detour, stop and wait until the way is clear, or remove the obstacle if it is a pile of rubble or snow.

It should be noted that the device can be charged from a conventional outlet. Charging an electric car takes 6-8 hours. In blade and brush cleaning mode, it will run for up to eight hours, which is a full shift.
