“Unlike conventional video communication applications, Skype, WhatsApp, when using ViNR, you don’t need to install anything extra on the user’s device. To make a video call, you just need to open the standard Phone application and the Video option will appear, ”the message says.
ViNR (Video over New Radio) is a technology that only works in autonomous fifth generation communication networks (5G). Earlier, in the fall of 2021, Skoltech launched an autonomous private 5G network that runs exclusively on native software. Now Skoltech’s 5G zone supports HD Voice (High Definition Voice) technology, previously VoNR (Voice over New Radio) has been successfully tested on a network basis.
«Regular users appreciate 5G for ultra-fast Internet access, high-quality ordinary voice calls and one-click video calling that do not require third-party applications,» said Dmitry Lakontsev, head of the NTI Competence Center in the release.
