Gamaleya Center specialists are developing a new tuberculosis vaccine. The third phase of clinical trials is currently underway, said Alexander Gintsburg, director of the center.
“Today, there has been a lot of progress with our tuberculosis vaccine, which is in Phase 3 clinical trials. It’s a completely new vaccine with new properties, ”Gunzburg told TASS.
He explained that the current BCG vaccine protects children from severe cases of the disease, but does not prevent infection. The new solution will be able to protect both children and adults from disseminated tuberculosis infection.
The Gamaley Center was allowed to conduct a trial of a new tuberculosis vaccine in the summer of 2021. It is the «GamTBvac» recombinant subunit vaccine. The Ministry of Health provided specialists with the necessary documents.
