They plan to open a customs branch in Chechnya, which will allow for the customs clearance procedure for products brought to the republic in the region. This was announced by the Minister of Transport and Communications of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Cherkhigov.
Under his leadership, a working meeting was held at the Ministry of Transport with representatives of transport companies in the region on the improvement of logistics in the Chechen Republic and the reconstruction of the Georgian military road.
«Previously, you had to use the Mineral Waters point, which created problems with the supply of perishable products to the region,» he said.
He recalled that the meeting of the secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Nikolai Patrushev, held earlier in Grozny, discussed the opening of a military-Georgian road and the creation of a border crossing point across the state border.
“Russian President Vladimir Putin approved this initiative and gave instructions to the relevant ministries. Huge works are underway in this direction, ”noted R. Czerchigow.
According to him, opening the road to Georgia will give a powerful impetus to the development of the economy of both the region and Russia as a whole.
“The existing road in North Ossetia-Alania today cannot cope with the existing traffic. As we know, many air and water connections are closed under the sanctions. Now in Russia they are switching to ground transport. Therefore, in these conditions, the issue of opening a Georgian military road and building a new one is even more acute, emphasized the minister.
The Chechen Republic already has a high-quality road leading to the border with Georgia, recalled the minister, that only a small, four-kilometer section requires renovation. Today, infrastructure facilities are being built here — gas stations, parking stations, and fast food outlets. However, the final decision to open a new road will depend on an agreement between the leadership of Russia and Georgia, it was emphasized at the meeting.
