The information that the Bank of Russia resumed the purchase of foreign currencies through intermediaries in order to protect the ruble from uncontrolled strengthening is not true, the regulator’s press service said.
The newspaper Vedomosti, citing sources, wrote earlier on Monday that the Central Bank had resumed currency purchases to prevent the ruble from strengthening in an uncontrolled manner. According to the publication, the Bank of Russia obtains only foreign exchange income from exporters with the help of other financial market participants.
«This information is not true,» reported the press service of the Central Bank, reports RIA Novosti.
