Earlier, the Chechen parliament proposed to supplement the title of the head of the region in the Chechen language, which sounds like «Mehk-Da», which some media translate as «father of the people». Later, the regional authorities clarified that the term «mekhkan da» was historically perpetuated among the Chechen population. Translated into Russian, it means «the highest official of the republic.»
«The Constitutional Law of the Chechen Republic «On Amendments to the Constitution of the Chechen Republic» was adopted unanimously. It was developed to supplement the Basic Law of the Republic with provisions according to which the head of the Chechen Republic is the guarantor of the Constitution of the Chechen Republic, human and civil rights and freedoms, and is authorized to take measures to ensure the legality, security and territorial integrity of the Chechen Republic, maintain peace and civil harmony in the Chechen Republic in accordance with Art. applicable legislation. The law also defines the position of the head of the Chechen Republic in Chechen — «Mehk-Da». The purpose of this change is to standardize the use of the title of head of the region in Chechen, which is the state language of the Chechen Republic,» Daudov said on his Telegram channel.
