To be clearer, consider the most common case: an employee works in the «standard» five-day working week and receives a salary.

Now you need to understand on which days the employee plans to take vacation. To this end, we would like to remind you which days of May will be «down». Taking into account the postponed May weekend, we receive the following holidays in May:

from 1 to 3 (1 — holidays; 2-3 — days off);

from 7 to 9 (7-8 — non-working days; 9 — public holiday).

It should be noted right away that if the vacation «falls» on a public holiday (for example, May 1 or 9), these days are not counted as vacation (the vacation must be extended or rescheduled).

If an employee receives a salary, the presence of non-working days or additional days off (shifted by the government) in the month is not a reason to reduce the salary. For example, if an employee receives a salary of 30,000 rubles, then after working 18 days in May and 21 days in June, he will still receive the same salary — 30,000 rubles. But the cost of one working day in different months will be different. So, in our example, the cost of one working day in May will be 1666 rubles. (30,000 / 18), and in June — already 1,428 rubles. (30,000/21).

In order to assess the «profitability» of the vacation, you need to compare: how much the employee received for the vacation period during this period and how much the employee would receive if he continued to work on the same dates. Recall that when an employee goes on vacation, he receives the average salary for all vacation days.

Consider an example: Suppose an employee takes a vacation from May 14 to 18 (for 5 days).

Continuing to work during this period, the employee would receive 8,330 rubles. (1666×5).

If an employee receives only a salary, the average daily earnings of the employee will be 1,023 rubles. (30,000 / 29.3 is the average monthly number of days in a month).

We get that after going on vacation during this period, the employee will receive 5115 rubles as «vacation pay». If he continues to work these days, he will earn 8,330 rubles.

5115 rub. or 8,330 rubles. — the difference is obvious.

However, if an employee receives not only a salary, but also various bonuses, his average earnings will be higher and the difference in wages may not be that great anymore.

The second point to consider is what days the employee will take vacation.

The fact is that weekends and bank holidays are not charged. Wages will remain the same due to the increase in the cost of the working day. Therefore, if the vacation falls on days that are not initially paid, the employee can win money.

For example, if you take a vacation from May 2 to May 8, the benefit will be significant because May 2, 3, 7 and 8 are unpaid days. But if these days are included in the vacation, they will be paid according to the average. Therefore, in the end, the worker will receive more money in a month if he simply continues to work in May according to the «general schedule».

Therefore, answering the question of whether it is profitable to take a vacation in May or not, we can say that everything will depend on which days of May the vacation is planned, what is the cost of one working day and what is the average daily earnings of an employee. Knowing this data, you can calculate the benefits.

In addition, it is also worth mentioning the very possibility of «going on vacation» on the appropriate days of May. As a rule, the employee goes on vacation in accordance with the schedule approved by the employer at the end of each year. Therefore, if the vacation is scheduled for these dates, there are no problems: the employee goes on vacation according to the schedule.

If the vacation is not planned, going on vacation in May is possible only with the consent of the employer. This means that if the employer is against such a vacation, it will not work (the only exceptions are employees who can go on vacation at a time convenient for them).
