Мэр Нью-Йорка Адамс ввел чрезвычайное положение из-за нехватки детских смесей

New York City Mayor Eric Adams signed a decree declaring a state of emergency in the city due to the lack of formula milk in the United States.

The infant formula shortage, estimated at 40-50% of US market demand, came after regulators shut down Abbott’s production line, suspecting it was contaminated with pathogenic bacteria. White House economic advisor Brian Deese said Abbott plans to resume production in about a month. He stated that the baby food market is 90% controlled by three companies and promised to demonopolize it.

New York Mayor Eric Adams signed Emergency Executive Order 98 declaring a state of emergency for shortages of infant nutrition. This order will give the New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection the right to prevent gouging in accordance with section 5-42 of New York City Rules Title 6. These efforts are being made as the United States faces a nationwide shortage of infant formula due to a voluntary recall and temporary closure of Abbott Nutrition, one of the country’s largest infant formula suppliers, a statement said on the city’s website.

Mayor Adams said the order would help take action against «any retailer willing to take advantage of this crisis» by raising the price of the product. The mayor added, addressing mothers and families that the city would do «everything it can» to help them during this period.

Earlier, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said the military air force had begun to urgently import scarce milk formulas for newborns into the United States from Europe, reports RIA Novosti.
