GROZNY, February 23 — RIA Novosti. Head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov named the deportation of the Chechen and Ingush people on February 23, 1944 as a «terrifying genocide».
Mass expulsions of Chechens and Ingush from their homes in Kazakhstan and Siberia began on February 23, 1944. Historians estimate that more than half a million people were evicted. Officially, the reason for the deportation was cooperation with the fascist invader and anti-Soviet activity.
