The Ministry of Digitization of the Russian Federation, together with the Central Bank, is preparing a large program of introducing the digital ruble, said the head of the ministry, Maksut Shadayev.
«We are really looking forward to the digital ruble. A large program of introducing the digital ruble is being prepared together with the Central Bank, which in my opinion is a promising story,» said Shadayev, whose words are quoted in the Telegram channel of the Ministry of Digitization.
The digital ruble is a digital currency developed by the Bank of Russia, the third form of the Russian national currency alongside the already existing cash and non-cash forms of money.
Central Bank head Elvira Nabiullina said in late April that the digital ruble project was one of the priorities and was already being tested with banks. In 2023, the regulator will start a pilot settlement of digital rubles in the real economy and expects to use them in international settlements, she noted, reports RIA Novosti.
